Great day yesterday going 2 for 2 at the Spa, with a 8-1 winner in the 4th. We gave back a little at Del Mar, but on to today's card at Saratoga. The undercard for this Travers Day looks weak early, so we'll start off in the 5th Race-as always, the best of luck to our followers:
5th Race Saratoga-It looks like #4 Whittington Park (2-1) got the most out of his debut vs. Rotknee. Rotknee was a well-bet Kentucky invader in both his starts, and Whittington Park certainly didn't embarrass himself in a race that had a torrid early pace. Whittington Park should advance out of the maiden ranks here with any kind of improvement and Manny Franco in the irons will certainly help him do that. We recommend 20 units to Win & Place, and 5-unit exacta boxes 4-9, 4-8.
7th Race Saratoga-Yes, we know Gamine is running and will take the bulk of the public money. We don't knock her as the record speaks for itself. That said, there is a horse, #5 Sconsin (9-2), has been waiting in the wings and gets Irad Ortiz on her back today. She certainly didn't embarrass herself the last time these two hooked up and I look for her to give Gamine all she can handle. The price looks right, the big rider switch and the short rest add up to a possible upset here. We're playing #5 Sconsin (9-2) 10 units to Win & Place with a 10 unit exacta box 5-1.
8th Race Saratoga-We like #7 Yaupon (5-2) in this spot to turn the tables on Whitmore this time around. Yes, we know Whitmore trounced him in the BC Sprint, but this race sets up completely different with Yaupon coming in riding improving form and was freshened after the Breeder's Cup and Dubai debacles. He is ready to run today and will give a good account of himself. We recommend 10 units to Win & Place along with 5-units exacta boxes 7-2 and 7-3.
9th Race Saratoga- #2 Jackie's Warrior (Even) has two speeds-Fast & FASTER!! This horse is a professional racehorse that just beats his foes into submission, taking no prisoners and breaking their wills. We are playing 30 units to Win on our first Best Bet and a 10-unit exacta 2-4.
10th Race Saratoga-Our second Best Bet here with #6-Letruska (6-5) who has shown she can set what would normally be a suicide pace, but always finds more down the stretch! Quite simply-SHE DEFIES THE LAWS OF PHYSICS and will romp vs. these types she is running against today. 30 units to Win on #6-Letruska and 10-unit exactas 6-5 and 6-9.
11th Race Saratoga-This is for all you Pick 6 players out there. It looks like #1-Tribhuvan (2-1), #4-Channel Maker (8-1) and #2-Gufo (3-1) to fill in the missing pieces of your Pick 6.
12th Race Saratoga-The Travers, Mid-Summer Derby, call it whatever you like, but we call it #2-Essential Quality (4-5). If you look up "race horse" in the dictionary, you will find his picture. This animal has a will of iron and just flat out refuses to lose! Our third Best Bet is 30 units to Win on #2 Essential Quality at 4-5. Follow up with 10-unit exactas 2-1 and 2-4.
